What NOT to do!!

As soon as you turn 20 your entire world changes. And no one really prepares you for what is about to happen. No one prepares you for the decisions you have to make, the pressures that everyone puts on you, or the adventures that you encounter. I could go on and on about all the things that you will most likely do as you enter your twenties that no one prepares you for, but I’m just going to give you three what NOT to do’s that I wish someone told me when I first turned 20!
#1 Do NOT think that you have to have it all figured out!!
I wish someone told me this at first! I went through so much stress and anxiety thinking I had to know exactly what I wanted to do and where I needed to be all the time. But in all reality there’s no textbook on how to do life. There’s no right or wrong answer on how to live. You don’t have to go to college, you don’t have to do a certain job, and you definitely do not have to have if figured out right away. As long as you do what you want to do it will eventually work itself out. I mean, I didn’t figure out what I really wanted to do until I was in my senior year of college. Fun fact, I changed my major 3 times. I started off wanting to go into Business, and I ended up finishing with a Bachelors in Psychology. In all reality I did not really figure out what I wanted to do until my last semester of college. If I would have known that it’s okay to not have it all figured out, I would have saved myself from a lot of stress and anxiety.
#2 Do NOT let others tell you what to do or where to go.
I want to start off by saying that you can always listen to people’s opinions and advice but you don’t necessarily need to take action on it. For example, if you want to move across the country and it’s a passion of yours to live there, do it while your young and when you don’t have kids. Don’t listen to others. Do what YOU want to do. One thing I regret doing is moving to California for a year or two during my early twenties. Or even traveling more, I love that I travel more now but I still wish I had done more in my earlier twenties. Another piece of advice that I have is just go for it. Don’t tell people what your going to go, just go and do it! That way they don’t talk you out of it!
#3 whatever you do, do NOT quit!
Whatever you’re doing do not quit! At least not at first! I wanted to quit soccer and I wanted to quit school and I am so glad that did not. If you are going to quit there are only two circumstances in which you should quit anything. This first circumstance would be when it’s on a good day, and the second is when it’s been a long time coming. It can’t just be a spur of the moment thing. The regret of quitting is a way bigger regret than a regret of not quitting. Also, I have never met anyone who has regretted not quitting sooner. At least not yet anyways.
If you’re about to turn twenty or in your early twenties, please do not quit what your doing. Things are going to be hard, there’s going to be rough days, but you got this! Also, do what you want to do, do not let others dictate your decisions! And remember, it’s okay to not have it all figured out!! Being in your twenties can be challenging and sometimes defeating. Trust me, I’m right there with you, and we will get through it together!
